HEAD
I’m a geospatial developer focused on building interactive maps that are accurate, performant, and genuinely useful.
My work combines GIS data processing with modern web mapping tools to create map-first experiences for outdoor recreation, public lands, and location-based information.
Wildland Atlas began as a way to publish my own mapping work and now serves as both a public resource and a professional portfolio.
=======Wildland Atlas is an independent mapping project dedicated to helping people explore beaches, national forests, public lands, and wild spaces through clean, intuitive interactive maps. Our goal is to make outdoor exploration more accessible by bringing together high-quality datasets, simple map tools, and clear information in one place.
Outdoor exploration can be confusing — maps vary widely in quality, data is scattered across multiple agencies, and reliable access information can be difficult to find. Wildland Atlas was created to solve this problem by providing a centralized, easy-to-use map interface for outdoor recreation.
We focus on three core principles:
Our growing collection of beach maps (including Florida and Lake Michigan) offers detailed information on public access points, parking, shoreline features, and amenities — along with individual pages describing each site.
Wildland Atlas includes interactive maps for numerous U.S. National Forests, featuring layers for:
These datasets are sourced from federal GIS repositories, public domain sources, and curated datasets assembled to improve usability and clarity.
All maps are built using Leaflet.js and custom data processing tools to ensure fast load times and smooth interactivity, even with complex datasets.
Each map is a blend of:
We strive to keep datasets as up-to-date as available sources allow, but conditions on the ground can change quickly. Users should always verify information with local agencies or on-site signage before traveling.
This site is designed for:
Whether you’re searching for a quiet Florida beach, planning a national forest road trip, or exploring new regions of the Great Lakes, Wildland Atlas aims to provide clear, reliable information to help you enjoy the journey.
Wildland Atlas is an ongoing project. Planned additions include:
We welcome feedback, corrections, dataset suggestions, and collaboration opportunities.
