Huron National Forest

Huron National Forest occupies much of the northeastern Lower Peninsula and features glacial outwash plains, sandy jack pine barrens, pine plantations, northern hardwoods, and major river systems such as the Au Sable. The forest is a major habitat for the endangered Kirtland’s warbler, requiring specialized jack pine ecosystems. Recreation includes hiking the Highbanks Trail, paddling the Au Sable National Scenic River, fishing in blue-ribbon trout streams, wildlife viewing, and dispersed camping throughout much of the forest.
