Mark Twain National Forest
Mark Twain National Forest spans over 1.5 million acres across the Ozark Highlands of Missouri, characterized by karst geology, limestone bluffs, clear spring-fed rivers, oak–hickory forests, and pine ridges. The Ozarks’ rugged topography includes sinkholes, springs, caves, and deeply incised river valleys such as the Eleven Point River. Forests include shortleaf pine, post oak, white oak, black oak, hickory, and scattered glades. Recreation highlights include paddling scenic rivers, hiking the Ozark Trail, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, and extensive dispersed camping opportunities along forest roads.
