Shawnee National Forest

Shawnee National Forest lies at the intersection of the Mississippi Embayment and the Illinois uplands, creating a unique mix of hardwood forests, sandstone bluffs, wetlands, and rolling hills. The Garden of the Gods area features dramatic sandstone formations shaped by millions of years of erosion. Recreation includes hiking, rock formations, horse trails, paddling routes, scenic drives, and widely available dispersed camping.
