Using the Map

Superior National Forest

Superior National Forest contains over three million acres of boreal forest, lakes, and wilderness, including the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). The landscape includes glacially carved lakes, granite bedrock of the Canadian Shield, cold-water streams, muskeg wetlands, and extensive coniferous forest. Recreation centers on canoeing routes, hiking, camping, fishing, and winter sports. Dispersed camping is allowed outside wilderness zones, and water-based travel is integral to the forest’s character.
